Long before vines were planted in the grounds of the sumptuous property, Chateau Monbrison was a smallholding attached to the Château d'Arsac. It is said that a secret tunnel connected the two properties, running all the way to the banks of the Gironde.
The chateau's profoundly unconventional history is inscribed in the walls of its magnificent central edifice, the oldest part of which dates back to the 17th century.
Although the entry to the secret tunnel has proven frustratingly difficult to locate, visitors can still appreciate the romantic tower that looks out onto an ivy-draped porch.
Ownership of the chateau has passed from the Davis family to the Vonderheyden family, who have expertly ensured the chateau's continued reputation.
