Description
Chateau de Lamarque is a living monument to the region's feudal history
Despite the calm that reigns at Chateau de Lamarque today, the atmosphere on the banks of the estuary has not always been so peaceful...
Chateau de Lamarque is a living monument to the region's feudal history, and the medieval lords who once ruled the territory.
This impregnable fortress was designed to protect military outposts on the banks of the Gironde from Viking raids.
Its current guise is the result of renovations carried out in the 14th century by Pons de Castillon, who added the dungeons, tower, and guard tour.
Since 1841, the houses of the Comte de Fumel and the Marquis d'Evry have been in possession of the estate, safeguarding, thanks to their descendants, the chateau's historical and winegrowing heritage.
