Description
At the invitation of Château Giscours, the Bordeaux-Labrède Cricket Club made the estate's former polo pitch their home ground in 2017. The club, now known as Bordeaux Giscours Cricket Club, has around thirty members, representing 10 different nationalities. Originally formed solely of wine traders and professionals from the UK, the club is now much more diverse.
The club's stated sporting ambitions are to develop the game of cricket in Bordeaux and the Gironde region, and to compete at a national level. 2014 was a 'vintage' season for Giscours, with 31 out of a possible 34 matches won!
Interesting and unusual (in France), cricket is a great way to promote Château Giscours. The estate often welcomes touring sides, including many clubs with long and prestigious histories. Memorably, BGCC once travelled to Windsor, where the team was watched by none other than Queen Elizabeth II. The Royal Household Cricket Club then travelled to Giscours for the return match.
A cricket match is the perfect opportunity to visit the property and enjoy a picnic with family or friends. A barbecue is available for use, and bottles of Rosé de Giscours are on offer at the shop. Matches generally begin at around 1pm, and last the whole afternoon.
